Hello from Honduras,

We have seen on the news that fall has arrived in many parts of the U.S. and winter in some areas. We even saw where it was snowing in northern states! In Honduras we don’t have to worry about the snow and cold temperatures but it does cool off some here in the mountains during November and December.

The political climate has not changed much in the last few weeks. Ex-president Zelaya is still holed up in the Brazilian Embassy demanding to be reinstated. The new government is determined to follow the constitution and the laws of Honduras which won’t permit this. It is pretty much a standoff. The Organization of American states has proved to be useless siding against democracy in demanding that Honduras break their constitution by reinstating the ex-president.

As far as our work is concerned, we are doing the best we can and staying out of the way of any demonstrations which really have not been too bad. Two weeks ago we were unable to work due to curfews and a few demonstrations following the unexpected return of the ex-president. Last week we worked hard and saw more than 300 patients and again this week we were able to work hard.

We worked in a new neighborhood last week called Los Laureles. It is here in Tegucigalpa so that is convenient. Attached are a few pictures I took while there and also a couple of pictures of the land for the women’s clinic.

In the first picture notice all the stairs that go up through the middle of the neighborhood. They are very uneven with some of them being up to 14 or 16 inches in height. The second is a picture of the people waiting to see Dr. Ana. The last two are pictures of the land which is just about cleaned up and is looking very nice.
